The Kemper Campbell Ranch provides the backdrop for various scenes of 'Mank,' an upcoming Netflix feature film directed by David Fincher. The movie tells the

story of Herman Mankiewicz, played by Gary Oldman, who actually spent two months at the Ranch in 1940 writing a large portion of the screenplay for Orson Welles' masterpiece 'Citizen Kane.' Back then, the Ranch was still named North Verde Ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Kemper Campbell would rename it the Kemper Campbell Ranch following the 1943 death of their oldest son, Kemper, Jr.
